The Midwest Principals’ Center is a professional organization for principals and other educational leaders.  It is located in the Chicago suburban area, with services available to interested leaders throughout the Midwest.  As part of our strategic plan, we continue to expand the type of membership, range of programs and services, and links with other organizations.  We offer several main programs each year to increase awareness of significant leadership issues. Through our collaboration with the regional offices of education, Administrator Academy credit may be available to those in Illinois who participate in a main program or general workshop.

As we approach the 2010-2011 MPC program year we acknowledge the difficult financial times school districts are facing.  To address this, the MPC governing board has approved significant reductions in the cost of our programs for those who choose to join our professional development network both as district partners and individual members.  There is a significant advantage for an individual to become a member whether or not his/her district is an MPC Partner District.)

Our program for 2010-2011 is organized in "clusters" of professional development.  Districts or individuals may choose a specific seuence or series of events around a focused topic.  (Partners/Individual Members receive a 5% discount.)  In attending each event in a sequence, participants have an ongoing professional development experience.

1.  Professional Learning Communities.  A workshop on the practical aspects of developing and maintaining PLCs will be followed by a series of focused breakfasts to continue learning and sharing among those involved in the management of PLCs.  Tom Many, retired superintendent of Buffalo Grove School Dist. 96 and colleague of Rick DuFour, will facilitate the workshop and breakfast discussions.

2.  Assessment.  A full-day presentation by Rick Stiggins on assessment will be followed by a two-day intensive training for principals and/or teacher leaders who become trainers of teachers in their schools.

3.  21st Century SchoolsHeidi Hayes Jacobs will be focusing on curricular issues in a full-day presentation.  Yong Zhao, in another full-day presentation, will continue to challenge us to create schools for the 21st century.  These two presentations will be followed by a workshop applying these ideas to the real world of our schools.

4.  A series of Legal Breakfasts, facilitated by practicing school lawyers, will update leaders on the most significant legal issues school leaders are facing today.

We sincerely that Community Cons. School Dist. 15 for the years they have served as our "home base" and National-Louis University for providing meeting facilities.  We are especially grateful to the DuPage Regional Ofc. of Education that welcomed us into their offices in July 2010.

Our partnerships with National-Louis, Governors State, Concordia University, Roosevelt University and Western Illinois University provide us with meeting space in several locations and an avenue for communication with graduate students in Education Leadership programs.  We are also please to have an ongoing partnership with the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC).
